I remember when Mr. Chandonnet told my 3rd grade class that our class was his last to teach at the end of the school year. Mr. Chandonnet was one of the best teachers a student could have and one of the few who actually taught lessons other than school teachings. I'm sure I can speak for every student if his when I say, Mr. Chandonnet was a mentor who not only cared as a teacher but also cared as a parent to his students. I remember I was hanging with the wrong crowd in the middle of the school year and he was fed up about it. He kicked me out of class, told me to sit out in the hall. He came out about a minute or two later and sat back against the wall beside me, said " You're not introuble but what's going on with you? You haven't been acting like the Aniah that I know you are. You've been disrespectful, mean, and getting into trouble lately. I taught you better than that and I know your parents did too, this has to stop today.. so I am sending you home for the rest of the day, I called your dad...". That day was the first day ever, that I saw disappointed come upon his face when my dad came to pick me up. The next day I apologized and we had a long talk about decision making..... I was struck with disbelief when I heard about Mr. Chandonnet's passing, as my mother and sisters were too when I told them. I send my prayers to all of those whose lives he has made an impact, but I send a special prayer to his family. He will forever be missed but never forgotten.
Rest High.
