I just spent 20 minutes writing memories to share with you and it disappeared from my screen. rather than retype, I am going to believe that my laptop share it with you. So, I am going to pick up where I left off, I was talking about the camping trip to MacInack (sp) and the Island. The water was really cold and you boys would not go in and swim. Brian, if he was there, Amy Mom and I had no such problem. We were going in swimming! The funniest thing there was when that darned old seagull bombed your mom, leaving that great big splat on her shoulder, also giving her a big bruise. Of course we all laughed, and she was good natured about it.
It was interesting that on various visits how we occasionally paired off. It seems like one summer trip to Indiana, Rick and I were pals, leaving Jim and Brian to chum together. Then another trip it was visa versa. One of your trips down, I was sleeping on the roll away cot in the pool room. Mom woke me up when she lowered the windows. It was storming out, big time. The next day we learned that a tornado had touched down up on top of the hill about a mile or so away, hitting a barn, making it look like a giant had stepped right in the middle of it, leaving both ends sticking up I the air.
I think another time, as we were playing on the hill behind the barn, somebody kicked down some small rocks and I got hit in the back of the head, leaving a trail of blood, scaring me to death.
We enjoyed Rick and Karen's wedding, meeting Karen's dad. He was having a time accepting the name 'Butt' graciously. I remember Jim and Deb's wedding, I think this was where the handcuff's came in, inspiring Brian to threaten Ronnie at our wedding!
Rick and Jim took a road trip and surprised me with a visit to my high school graduation party. You boys also videoed my wedding as a gist to us.
I treasure the times our two families have spent together over the years. The friendship our parents forged all those years ago held together over time. They worked hard to provide for their families and instilled qualities of respect, honesty, hard work, love of God, and importance of friendships. We looked forward to those trips and as a kid I was sorry to see them end. If AL was like Dad, it was fun, but it could have ended sooner!
It is so awesome to see that Brian and Rick have continued the tradition and that it extends to Andrea and Tina.
Hmm, what else? Shirley's samples of Avon to go home with, like soap on a rope and lipstick samples, and Al's nightly routine of ice cream before bed. I always liked that at your house because we did not get that treat at home! Course, you were all skinny beanpoles and we could not claim that, so we were more restricted in our ice cream consumption. In spite of his health, your dad came down for our wedding.
Or condolences in Shirley's passing. But, I know that you are rejoicing that she is reunited with Al, Cindy, and Chris. May your faith keep you uplifted in the days ahead. And maybe the next time ,John , you will catch that big fish! Maybe she just did not get the order in in a timely manner. I am sure she will do better on your next trip! Although it has been awhile since we have seen each other, know that I still love you all and am with you in my thoughts! Cindy Butt Rudrow, and Ronnie and Richie
