Shirley E. Boes' Obituary
Mrs. Shirley E. Boes, age 80, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 19, 2016 in Muskegon. She was born June 26, 1935 in Fremont MI to Martin and Alice Tanis. Shirley married Allen Boes on September 29, 1953, and he preceded her in death in 2007. She was also preceded in death by their daughter, Cindy in 1955; sister, Helene Vandermey; and grandson, Christopher Boes. Shirley is survived by her sons, Richard (Karen) Boes, James (Debbie) Boes, and John (Monica) Boes all of Muskegon. Shirley had 10 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. A woman of great independence, she lived in her home until the most recent illness. Shirley spent 4-5 days a week, during the summer, camping on Lake Cecile in Baldwin, often showing off her big catch of fish to the neighbors. She also enjoyed time she spent with her friends at Lake Community Bible Church. Shirley spent over 45 years as an Avon Representative. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church, where she continued her passion of helping the disabled by running the Friendship Program for over 40 years. Shirley loved volunteering for Love Inc., Muskegon Rescue Mission, Johnson Family Cancer Center, and Local Food Pantries. Her hobby of knitting provided 2-3 hats per week for patients at the Johnson Family Cancer Center. An avid crafter, Shirley made custom cards shared between the Johnson Center and Love Inc. Well known for her smile, and seldom showing a frown, she found humor in adversity, a trait shared by the entire family. Shirley loved watching her Grandkids’ sporting events, concerts, and plays doing her best to never miss. Her love of sports made watching Michigan, Michigan State, Detroit Tigers and the Red Wings games a priority. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11 AM Friday, March 25 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8 PM Thursday, and 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial funds for the Muskegon Rescue Mission, Hope Reformed Friendship Ministries, and Love Inc. Share memories with the family online at www.sytsemafh.com
