Shirley is related to me two ways. This happened when two cousins from Stambaugh married 2 brothers from Muskegon. That made Shirley (my mothers cousin) a second cousin to me and my siblings. When she married my dads brother, that also made her an aunt to me and my siblings. ( of course my husband Steve who thinks he is a comedian, had to ask me how many branches the family tree had!) Now that we have that part taken care of, I have a cute story about Aunt Cousin Shirley.....whenever our family got together, there was always music. Not just any old music, we had live music! My grandfather was a great concertina player, and so was our Aunt Lorraine (we call her Sis) Sis had a band called the Polka Queens, and played music that we would sing along to. I remember the time at a family gathering I was sitting near Aunt Shirley and she was laughing and singing along. She kept coaxing me to join in and I kept telling her that I couldn't carry a tune. She claimed that she couldn't either, but it didn't matter, just sing! So I did, and we laughed and had fun teasing each other about our singing careers, and how we would go broke if we had to make a living that way. Every time we saw each other after that, we teased each other about singing. She thought that we sounded better when the music was really extra loud! Sooooo…… all this to say "Aunt Shirley...I know you are in heaven today, singing with the voice of an Angel! You have the ultimate singing career in heavens choir" You will be missed here, but we know that God must have needed you and your beautiful voice in heaven.
