Shirley Mae Laurin's Obituary
Mrs. Shirley Mae Laurin, 81, passed away early Sunday, July 8, 2012at her home after a short illness. Born August 13, 1930 in Fruitport to Arthur and Violet (Thornton) Steinkraus, she lived most of her life in this area. Shirley enjoyed going to casinos, playing bingo, and dancing, but most of all she enjoyed her family. She is survived by her son, Chet (Gloria) Slater and daughter, Cindy Erickson, and a special niece, Pam (Randy) Broughton all of Muskegon; sisters MaryLou (John) Silva of California, Carol (John) Dixon of Muskegon, and Pat (Bill) Johnson of California; a brother, Carl (Georgia) Steinkraus of California; nine grandchildren: Tammy (Skip) Siel, Shelly Horringa, Ginger (Jay) Zuidema, Lee Erickson, Tony (Buffy) Slater, Jennifer (Scott) Matthews, Tom (Barb) Slater, Scott Slater, and Nick Slater all of Muskegon. Also surviving are 22 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Beatrice Higgins. A Memorial Service will be held at a later time, while California relatives are visiting.
