Sonja Marie Thomas' Obituary
Sonja Marie Thomas, age 87, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at The Village of the Oaks. She was born May 3, 1939 in Fremont, MI to Richard and Bernice (Bird) Shinew. In September 1958 she married Gerald G. Thomas and they were married for 65 years. She was a faithful member of Mona Shores Baptist Church. She enthusiastically supported her children in their school and athletic pursuits and later lovingly helped them care for her grandchildren. SURVIVORS include five children, Pamela (Gary) Anderson, Lisa (Chris) Carson, Scott (Amy) Thomas, twins Jeanie and Julie Thomas; 20 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Judé Thomas; brother, Richard (Sharon) Shinew; and sister, Londa (Dale) Hiler. Sonja was preceded in death by her husband, Gerry Thomas in 2024; and her son, Larry Thomas in 2017. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444 with her son, Pastor Scott Thomas, officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service, 12pm-1pm Tuesday. Interment will take place at Seaman Cemetery in Casnovia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sonja’s name to the Center Lake Bible Camp will be appreciated.
