Steven R. McCarthy's Obituary
Mr. Steven Raymond McCarthy, age 74, of Byron Center, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on October 5, 2016. He was born August 24, 1942 in Grand Rapids to Doris (Truax) and William McCarthy.
Steven proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, serving a tour in Vietnam. After an honorable discharge, he continued to serve his community as a police officer for more than two decades with the City of East Grand Rapids. Some of his accomplishments during his law enforcement career are, becoming a Road Patrol Sergeant, Firearms Rangemaster and Director of the Police Cadet Program. In 1988 he continued to serve his community in the private sector and opened his own business, Irish Eyes Protection Agency. He was also a very committed 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master of the Grand Haven Masonic Lodge #139.
In 1989, Steven met Correna Englund and the couple married in 2004 in Southfield, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Correna; children Terri (Mike) Emley, Steve (Renee) McCarthy, Tom (Jane) McCarthy, Corey (Elizabeth) Guigelaar, Shawn (Megan) Cash, and Tammy Cash; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Steven was preceded in death by his mother and father; son, Steven Johnathon; 2 brothers and 1 sister; and granddaughter, Bridgette Emley. Steven had many friends that lovingly referred to him as “Pa” or “Mac.”
Services for Steven will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Steven’s name may be directed to the Easter Seals Adult Services in Southfield, Michigan or Heartland Hospice.
