Steven Eric Vander Hoff's Obituary
Our beloved Steve passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017, at home in the presence of his family. Steve was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Ken and Esther (Erickson) Vander Hoff. The family moved to Spring Lake a few years later, where Steve remained a resident for almost his whole life. Steve attended St. Mary’s school through the eighth grade and graduated from Spring Lake High School in 1967. Steve received his business degree from Northern Michigan University, where he was a member of the Phi Tau fraternity. Steve married the former Nanette Ivins in July of 1981, in Grand Haven. Steve was an avid sportsman who enjoyed deer, turkey, and duck and goose hunting. He was also a trapper; however, his passion was for fishing. He enjoyed teaching his girls to fish for salmon and trout at the family cottage, in northern Michigan. Steve remained a faithful member of St. Mary’s Church in Spring Lake, where he enjoyed ushering and other activities in the church. Steve served on the board of the Highland Park Association, where he enjoyed having a cottage for several years. He also served on the board for the historic Nunica Cemetery. Steve retired from Supreme Machine Products of Spring Lake where he worked in sales and purchasing. Steve will continue to have a loving presence in the lives of those who survive him, including his wife Nan, daughters Chelsea, Ally, and Rachel, six-week-old grandson (whom he adored), Ivin Jude. Steve is also survived by his brothers (who were able to be with him when he passed), Ken (Janet) Vander Hoff of Cumming, GA, Jim Vander Hoff of Cranford, NJ, Dave (Carol) Vander Hoff of Jacksonville, FL, and Mark Vander Hoff of Apex, NC; brother-in-law, Roger Brown of Elkhart, IN. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Nelson and Helen Ivins; sisters-in-law, Marietta Brown and Mary Vander Hoff. He will also be missed by many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the amazing, talented health care providers, who not only extended his life, but enabled him to have quality of life. Our thanks to Dr. Jack Roosien of Grand Haven, Dr. Nadev Dujovny and Dr. Nehal Lakhani of Grand Rapids, Dr. Al Benson of Northwestern Chicago, IL, Dr. Yuman Fong of Memorial Sloan Kettering New York, NY (also of, City of Hope in Duarte, CA), Dr. Axel Grothey of Mayo Rochester, MN, and his favorite nurse ever, Chelsea Vander Hoff R.N.
