Terry J. Marris' Obituary
Terry J. Marris, 58, of Spring Lake passed away after a five-year battle with cancer Tuesday, May 6th, at home surrounded by family. He was born in Fort Bragg, NC on December 16th, 1955. Terry grew up in Syracuse, NY and moved to Michigan when he married Susan (Way) Marris, the love of his life, in 1976.
He graduated from Central Square High School in NY and was looking forward to his 40-year reunion this summer. He also earned an associate’s degree from Muskegon Community College. He began his career at the family-owned Shaker Good Room restaurant and finished working as a warehouse manager at American Bottling in Holland. Terry was an avid sports enthusiast, golfer, and a dedicated Syracuse Orangeman fan. He was full of life, humor, and loved his family deeply; most of all, he enjoyed going on family vacations to New York and Disney World. In retirement he enjoyed yard work, landscaping and playing cards with his golfing buddies.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife, Susan, of 38 years; daughters, Brooke (J. D.) Kingsnorth, Tiffany (friend, Joshua Deter) Marris; brother, Jeff Marris of Wilmington, NC; father- and mother-in-law, Russell and Yvonne Way; brothers-in-law, Russell and Andrew Way; uncle and aunt, Doug and Gwen Noren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday, May 9, 2014 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake.
