Theresa Frances Merano's Obituary
Theresa Frances Merano, 86, of Muskegon passed away Monday, January 19, 2015. She lived life to the fullest as devoted and loving wife of 37 years, mother, and grandmother. Born on January 2, 1929 to Roy and Ann Kennedy in Springfield, IL, she was raised with two brothers and six sisters. She graduated from Ursuline Academy. On April 28, 1951, Theresa married Emil Merano. The loving couple and young family moved & made their home in West Michigan in October 1958, where they shared wonderful memories on the lakes and beaches. With a desire to teach and the help & support of her family, Theresa returned to school to earn a teaching degree in Education from Western Michigan University. Theresa’s teaching career spanned 28 years of teaching kindergarten through third graders. She strove to develop a passion for reading in all of her students, tutoring many before and after school. In retirement, when former students would approach her out in the community, she was always delighted. Often they shared that she was their favorite teacher. In retirement, Theresa continued to share her love of books and love for reading by volunteering to read with first graders. Theresa loved to travel, especially Ireland and Italy, and had many memories of trips with her husband, family, and friends. Some of her favorite activities included playing bridge, cooking, skiing, golfing, eating and entertaining, shopping, attending the symphony and theatre, spending time with family, and being a member of the Herbal Society. She had a wonderful sense of humor and joy of life. Theresa is survived by her children, Mark Merano, JoAnn Hradsky, and Kathleen (Douglas) Tuma, and 5 grandchildren, Christopher Anderson, Kelly Hradsky, Jon Hradsky IV, Brittani Hradsky, & Trevor Tuma and sister, Gertrude Johnson. She’s preceded in death by her husband, Emil Merano, and son-in-law, Jon Hradsky. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in Theresa’s name can be made to the MAISD Read early.
