Thomas Brogren 's Obituary
Thomas Paul Brogren, 75, died Sunday, April 26, 2020 at his home following an accident. He leaves his wife of over 20 years, Gail (Erickson) Brogren; his children, Kate Allen, Heidi Dennis, Joe, Ben, Jake, Keli Norris; and many close friends. Born and raised in Whitehall, the son of Paul and Bertha Brogren, he lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. In his early years, Tom worked in his mother’s store in Whitehall, Scandia House, selling gifts and helping to tend the store. After graduating from Whitehall High School in 1963, he worked at Campbell Wyatt and Cannon in the foundry and other odd jobs to pay for college. He attended Michigan State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree. Tom was a financial advisor with Mass Mutual insurance for over 50 years. He not only took pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during his time in business. Over the years, his insurance and financial expertise and reputation led him to build not only a successful business, but also a network of clients, whom he considered his closest friends and family. Tom had a passion for helping others through not only financial planning, but also the church. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Muskegon, MI. Tom was committed to the congregation and future of the church and committed himself to its enduring success. He was an avid reader and collector of books on the Civil War. He also enjoyed golf, despite his poor swing; travel; ice cream; appreciating art; and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and friend to many. His humor and friendship will be sorely missed by all who knew him for the kind, gentle, and thoughtful man that he was. Over the years, he asked to be remembered in a celebration of his life. Due to the current health risks, this celebration will be postponed until such time as we can all grieve, celebrate, and laugh about the times that we shared. Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel of the Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444.
