Thomas C. Pegg's Obituary
Thomas C. Pegg, age 76, of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024. He was the first born son of Thomas and Charlotte (Westra) Pegg, born April 5, 1947, in Grand Haven. On May 2, 1997, he married Sherrian Smith, and she preceded him in death on March 15, 2013.
Tom owned Sun Design Engineering for a number of years, then worked for Express Scripts Pharmaceuticals, where he designed prescription dispensing robotics that revolutionized the industry. Tom was a brilliant man, holding multiple patents in his name for his design work and engineering. He was also an excellent cook, and was well known for entertaining family and friends with delightful meals. If you were lucky enough to have joined Tom for dinner you know the conversation was lively and the food delicious. In his youth he enjoyed snow and water skiing, later on, it was boating with Sherrian and his parents in Florida. Tom was a huge sports fan and loved the Detroit Tigers. He quite often was sporting “The English D” as part of his attire. The Pegg family operated “The Holiday Lodge”, a family resort located on Harbor Drive across from the Grand Haven State Park. Guests could stay in the upstairs of the old cottage for $3 a night with a shared bath. Tom and his brother Dan shoveled a lot of sand in their lives, as the winds blowing in from his beloved Lake Michigan left small dunes for them to relocate. While Tom was limited late in life by Parkinson’s, he still enjoyed the weekly “breakfast with the boys” every Thursday, a peaceful drive to see his lake, and quietly reading the newspaper, especially the Sports section. More than anything, Tom truly loved Grand Haven and enjoyed so many friendships in his community. All of us who knew and loved him will remember his generous heart and the way he loved to tease.
He is survived by four children: Sara Short, Holly Blakeney (Kevin Conway), Stef Hall, and Jeffrey (Buffy) Hall; eight grandchildren: Owen Short, Sophia Short, Isabella Short, Ryan Su, Aoife Conway, Alison Hall, Abigail Hall, Connor Hall; siblings: Cathy (Peter Carey) Pegg-Owens, Susan Pegg, and Daniel Pegg (Brenda Espinosa)
A celebration of life will take place this summer. Burial will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Tom may be given to the Sherrian A. and Thomas C. Pegg Family Fund at the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation or to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at http://www.sytsemafh.com.
