Thomas VanDusen's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Thomas VanDusen, 75, of Norton Shores, announces he peacefully passed away while surrounded by his family, on April 16, 2018. Thomas (Tom) was born December 27, 1942 in Alpena, Michigan. As a teenager, Tom excelled at track and field, particularly the long jump. After serving in the Navy, he met, and married, Kathryn (Kathy) Kirchoff, his bride of nearly 52 years. He worked for, and retired from, GTE of Michigan. Tom enjoyed wood working projects, golf, and time spent with friends and family. Throughout his life, he made many friends, and those that knew him will miss his quick wit, charm, and selflessness.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Jadwiga (Harriet) Mulka, and father, Leonard VanDusen. Also preceding him were three brothers, Michael, Edward and Frank VanDusen. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, and their eight children, Cindy Nic (Ric), Robert VanDusen (Shelley), Kendra VanDusen, Paul VanDusen (Kim), Mandy Paquin, Sarah Lowe (Tom), Philip VanDusen (Crystal), and Joanna VanDusen, as well as 20 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Tom are his siblings, Joseph VanDusen, Julie Scott, and Geraldine LaCross.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation in the name of Tom’s brother, Edward VanDusen, would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements handled by The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. Sign the guesbook online at www.sytsemafh.com
