Thomas J. Baker's Obituary
Thomas John Baker, age 80, of Grand Haven passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 23, 2006. He was born October 8, 1925 to William and Helen (Van Oordt) Baker in Grand Haven, MI.
Tom earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from Oklahoma State University; and he owned and operated Baker Aerospace Company. He served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot during WWII and as a captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force in 1964. He was a member of the American Legion-Charles Conklin Post 28 of Grand Haven and he was a member at large of the VFW Post 14000. He retired from the Confederate Air Force as a colonel. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Baker of Jacksonville, AR, and Kristi Johnson of Grand Haven; a son, Jon (Christine) Baker of San Diego, CA; 11 grandchildren including David and Dana of the Grand Haven area; 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and a brother, William (Shirley) Baker of Grand Haven; son-in-law, Scott Johnson of Grand Haven; many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Mr. Baker will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2006, at the Lee Chapel at Lake Forest Cemetery in Grand Haven with Chaplain James DeSpelder officiating. Those desiring a memorial are asked to consider Harbor Humane Society or the American Legion-Charles Conklin Post 28.
