Tillie Witt's Obituary
Mrs. Tillie Witt, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Holland, Michigan. She was born in Sanborn, Iowa to Evert and Helen (Boer) Van’t Slot. Tillie was an active member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church where she served in many capacities, including Sunday school teacher, Calvinette leader, and most recently as a deacon. She owned and operated her own cleaning service for many years prior to her retirement. She was generous with her time and enjoyed going on mission trips (well into her 70’s) and volunteering locally at Muskegon Christian School, Western Michigan Christian High School, and Dibs on Resale. Tillie especially enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Ravenna Quilters. She enjoyed camping, hiking, biking, reading, and traveling. Tillie valued friendships and good conversation, and both were made a little sweeter with her homemade chocolate chip cookies. On August 22, 1947, Tillie married John Witt and they celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to his passing on October 7, 2007. She is survived by her four children, Sherry (Daniel) Oegema, Larry (Laurie) Witt, Rick Witt, and Mary (David) Workman; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Peter (Melinda) Van’t Slot; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, John, Tillie was preceded in death her son, Kenneth Witt; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Witt; granddaughters, Melissa Witt and Tillie Witt; brother, Andrew Van’t Slot; and sisters, Jeanetta Lyzenga and Anna Kaarnemaat. SERVICES for Tillie will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Allen Avenue CRC (695 Allen Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442). VISITATION will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 and one hour prior to her service at church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery.
