Darcy, Shane, Josiah, Jacob, and Rylee,
My heart is heavy today and tears are beckoning my attention. My mom found Tim's obituary notice in the paper and sent it to me last night. I have wrestled to find something to say in the wake of your loss. It seems, for me, that words can never express the depth of emotion that comes when I am faced with the passing of an old friend.
I know that it's been years since we have been in contact, but seeing Tim's face immediately drew me back to your driveway on Hile Rd. early on the opening morning of duck hunting season about 15 years ago. The early morning air was crisp and the sun had not yet been awoken by the departing night. Tim always loved to get out on the water while the ducks were still sleeping, and before the other hunters had settled into his favorite spot on the river. I can say that opening morning with Tim, and many times Shane, was one of the only things that could get me up a few short hours after I laid my head down. Rarely since then have my eyes seen that hour come more than once in a day!
For years after I moved away from Spring Lake, my mind would return to the thoughts of those days every fall around opening morning. Tim's face was always in those thoughts almost mirroring the one that was in the paper.
Shane, Josiah, Jacob, and Rylee...
Because of the natural changes that take place in life, it's been years since I have seen or spoken to your dad. I don't feel I have had enough of a relationship with him as of late to speak about the man he had become in his final years. What I can tell you is who he became to me in the years that I knew him.
It is the look on his face that tells my story of him. When I knew him, he was a man willing to take risk and chase adventure. I can still see it in his eyes. He wasn't afraid to challenge what he didn't believe was right, and yet his compassion left room for the voice and feelings of other people. His concern for others was what caused him to invite me into his life and into the life of your family. And despite the distance in our relationship over the years, it is also what has created in me the love that I still have for him this day. Year's ago he saw in me a young man in my teenage years who was looking for adventure and the opportunity to come alive. Your dad helped to give me that chance. I will forever be grateful to him and to your family for making space for me in those times. Looking to the future, I hope there is something that resembles a twelve gage in heaven, because if your dad and I meet each other there, I would really enjoy the opportunity to see that smile on his face as we fire off guns in celebration of our reunion with each other and Jesus.
To all of you…I want you to know that I am wrestling with God over the pain you must feel from Tim’s passing. It is in times like these that I have a hard time accepting the mystery of God. I am also asking Him to mysteriously comfort you as you press on.
Know that I am thinking about all of you today...

Tim grew up in our neighborhood. He was a wonderful young man. Even though the family moved, while he was still growing; we always were very happy to see him, when out and about. His joy in life was wonderful! May God bless Tim`s family, and Mom. He was a blessing to all of you. Heaven has opened her doors. Someday, we can meet again. Until then........##imported-begin##Bob and Corky Medendorp##imported-end##
