Velma L. Sanders' Obituary
Velma L. Sanders passed away in Muskegon Heights, MI, on Saturday, March 29, 2025. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a master’s in educational leadership. She went on to work for many years as a teacher for Muskegon Heights Public Schools and was featured in “Who’s Who Among American Teachers”. She was a longtime member at Muskegon Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was a wonderful cook and baker, an avid reader and writer, and a talented pianist and organist. She was pledged to the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and participated in many community events with them. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, J Arthur Sanders; three sons: Damon L. Sanders, Raphael L. Sanders, and Artisse L. Sanders; special son, Andre L. Robinson; three siblings: Queen E. (Maurice) Stinson, Dr. Rebecca Carr, and Charles E. (LaShon) Brooks Sr; and close friend, Edna Warren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Pickens and Susie Brooks.
A FUNERAL will be held for Velma 11:00 AM Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Muskegon Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3040 Evanston Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. VISITATION will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444, as well as an hour prior to the funeral on Thursday.
