Verna Elizabeth Hoeker's Obituary
Mrs. Verna E. Hoeker, age 82, went to be with her Lord on Thursday afternoon, December 2, 2010. She was born on August 17, 1928, to Ernest and Ida (Japenga) Medendorp. Verna married Kenneth E. Hoeker on September 29, 1948. She was an active member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church where she was secretary for 17 years. Verna was also a member of Bethany’s Women’s Fellowship and the YMCA aqua wave fitness program. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Daniel (Mary Kay) of Muskegon and Douglas (Paula) of Holland; her daughter, Linda (Tim) Ippel of Decatur, IL; and daughter-in-law Janis (Paul) Stoub of Grand Rapids; 15 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; her twin brother Laverne (Lois) Medendorp of Twin Lake; and many nieces and nephews. Verna was preceded in death by a son Thomas on May 26, 1995, and her husband Kenneth on June 17, 2006; 3 brothers, John, Orwin, and Edward; and a sister, Jeanette (Ande) Osterhart. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11 AM Monday, December 6, 2010, at Bethany Church, 1105 Terrace St. with her pastor, Rev. David Sieplinga officiating. VISITATION will be Sunday afternoon from 2-5 PM at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Western Michigan Christian High School Gymnasium Fund or Bethany Church.
