I have fond memories of the many times that we spent at our grandparents homes , and the visits for holidays, birthdays and reunions in Troy and Lapeer. We always had lots of
fun and laughs. Love. Mary
I met Vina when I came from Scotland to America for a few years in Michigan. Having been to Africa myself I also shared a love of giraffes, and we had a lovely outing to go and feed them. Vina was one of my dog Muirneag (Momo) many aunties. She would offer be all too willing to watch her for me, and in return she would sneak into her bedroom and toss her pillows around. Or on one dreadful Friday nibble all along a wedding cake for her niece. Although I have been away from America since 2009, we kept in touch via Facebook and she enjoyed seeing photos of where I live and the latest dogs to my family. Vina I will miss you heaps and our shared passions which most is the love of God. Go and give Momo a big hug for me and see you in Heaven. Love Mary (Morag)
Vina was an Amazing woman who truly loved the Lord ( Abba Daddy ) She will be missed by us all.
I first met Vina when I was a student at the University of Evansville through Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship. She I were both nursing students and shared an apartment together during part of her final yrs at that university (1971-1972). We became very familiar with each other's families; often attending the other's family celebrations or events. We have fond memories of being in Michigan with her family or having them visit us in Indiana.
Vina loved to give special gifts to people. In fact, we still have a ceramic Christmas Tree, a very unique Lord's Supper Picture in copper (and other metals) and a cross stitch picture that she made for us. After my husband (Walter) and I married in December of '72 and for many years afterwards, Vina would send us a unique Hallmark ornament each year for our anniversary. When my older 2 children were quite small, Vina lived near us in Bloomington, IN, so she frequently came to our home and was so often a part of our lives that my children referred to her as "Aunt Vina".
We stayed closely in touch with each other for many years but we did drift apart as life, family, & time closed in on us. Unlike Vina, I only worked as a nurse for about 3 1/2 yrs after I graduated from college. Nevertheless, we still discussed "Nursie" things whenever we got together or visited over the phone. We were both passionate about the special gift of life and purpose that Christ had given to us and always enjoyed talking about new revelations and insight that God had been teaching us.
Vina had a deep compassion for abused women and always wanted to somehow benefit them; to help them experience Christ's healing. Her own physical "issues" often got in the way of that goal and that seemed to frustrate her, at times.
It's impossible to summarize the entire life of another but I knew this fine woman (VJ, as I called her) to be a loyal friend who loved her family and her God. She was someone who wanted to make a positive difference in this world. I know that she certainly did that in my life and I am grateful.
