Virginia E. Markley's Obituary
Virginia E. Markley, age 95, of Grand Haven passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at a local care facility. She was born on November 3, 1918 in Noblesville, Indiana to Fred and Madeleine (Eppert) Gwinn. She married Vern Markley on December 20, 1941 in Noblesville and they were married for 70 years when he preceded her in death on April 17, 2012.
Virginia was a Noblesville High School graduate and she attended Stephens College in Missouri. She was resident of the tri-cities area for many years and was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, elder and deacon. She was a member at Spring Lake Country Club and Reach for Recovery. Virginia had also been President of the Mary Free Bed Guild and was a hospice volunteer. She enjoyed sewing, watching golf, playing bridge and euchre, but she especially enjoyed raising her family. Her favorite poem was “Attitude” by Charles Swindoll.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Anne (Nelson) Miller, John (Janice) Markley, and Jim (Sue) Markley; “adopted” children, James and Julie Riley; grandchildren: Sarah, Maddy, Max, and John; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Gwinn, and Gretchen Eller. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jane (Kenneth) Eller; and brother, John Gwinn.
A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 27, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Scott Robertson officiating. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
