Virginia "Mildred" Blakely's Obituary
Mrs. Virginia “Mildred” Blakely, age 93, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s Jane’s home in Muskegon on Sunday morning, December 30, 2007. She was born August 24, 1914 in Lawrence, KS where she graduated as valedictorian from Eudora Rural High School in 1933. Mildred has resided in the Muskegon area most of her life and was an active member of Crestwood United Methodist Church. She was an awesome homemaker, loved to sail and had knitted over 330 baby blankets for Love, Inc. The former “Mildred” Smith married Edgar Blakely on October 21, 1954 and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry Delano. She was a friend to all; and is survived by 3 children, Sharon (Edward “Spike”) Boyer and Jane (David) Erickson of Muskegon and Curtis (Sue) Delano of Sparta; 1 daughter-in-law, Patti Delano of Portland, OR; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Crestwood United Methodist Church with Pastors Dianne Bowden and Tim Cross officiating. Private interment will be in Mona View Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial you are asked to consider the Memorial Fund of Crestwood UMC or the Muskegon Rescue Mission.
