Walter Posvistak's Obituary
Mr. Walter Posvistak, age 91, passed away at his home on Monday, May 30, 2011. He was born January 28, 1920 in Muskegon Hts., MI to Peter and Christine (Filonow) Posvistak. Walter graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and went on to Western Michigan University. He left college to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Force and served as a fighter pilot during WWII. After serving overseas, he was a combat flight instructor and eventually became an engineering officer and made the rank of Captain. He married the former Jeane Thompson on February 24, 1945 in Santa Rosa, CA. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2006. Walt was employed as a machinist at Teledyne Continental Motors for 36 years. Following his retirement in 1981, he raised and raced homing pigeons and was active with the pigeon club. He was a member of the Muskegon County Rock and Mineral Association and was a Fruitport Silver Eagle. He was also well known for his dill pickles. SURVIVORS include his children, Russell J. (Charlotte) Posvistak, Walter L. (Teresa) Posvistak and Diane C. (Jim) Zechlinski; grandchildren, James (Melissa) Posvistak, Andrea (Darrin Miller) Posvistak and Brian (Allison) Jackson; 8 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alex and John Posvistak. He will be laid to rest in Mona View Cemetery where a PRIVATE GRAVESIDE service will be held under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council of Veterans.
