Wayne Morris Bomgaars' Obituary
Mr. Wayne Morris Bomgaars, age 85, passed away at his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. He was born in Grand Rapids on July 14, 1939 to Gerard and Agnes (Komar) Bomgaars. Wayne graduated from Michigan State University with a Master of Education. He dedicated his career to education, working at Muskegon Public Schools for 30 years as both a teacher and administrator before his retirement in 1997. After retiring, he continued to serve as an instructor at Grand Valley State University for an additional six years. A devout member of Lakeside Baptist Church, Wayne contributed as both the music director and associate pastor. He was a longstanding volunteer and board member at Bair Lake Bible Camp, giving over 50 years of service. In his personal life, Wayne’s generous heart defined his entertaining, as he lovingly prepared delicious meals and set beautiful tables with a servant’s spirit. He enjoyed traveling with friends across Europe and the Caribbean. Most importantly, he cherished the time spent with his beloved wife, Sharon, as well as his children and grandchildren. On December 16, 1966, Wayne married the former Sharon Schutter and she survives him along with their three children, Christopher (Sarah) Bomgaars, Amy (Mark) Bragg, and Benjamin (Heather) Bomgaars; nine grandchildren, Madeline Bragg, Amara Bragg, Charles Bomgaars, Samuel Bragg, Isaac Bomgaars, Oliver Bomgaars, Daniel Bomgaars, Simon Bomgaars, and Caleb Bomgaars; sister, Carole Brown; many nieces and nephews; and all of Sharon’s loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerard and Agnes Bomgaars. VISITATION will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, May 9, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
