Wayne F. Tovey's Obituary
Mr. Wayne F. Tovey, age 97, of Spring Lake passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Trinity Hospital after a short illness. He was born June 23, 1926, in Portland, OR to Walter and Ann (Rauch) Tovey. On September 1, 1950, he married Patricia Hammond in Spring Lake and she preceded him in death on January 3, 2008.
Wayne was raised in Amity, OR on the family farm until he left to serve in the US Navy with his twin brother Walt. They joined the US Navy to fight in the pacific in WWII. After serving their time in the Navy, they joined the United States Coast Guard. He was a lifetime member of the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28 and enjoyed golfing and watching sports on TV.
He is survived by two sons, Bob (Vicky) Tovey of Grand Haven, and John (Kathy Dresinga) Tovey of Nunica; six grandchildren: Lisa (David) Peterson, Kimberly Tovey, Shelly (Rick) Visser, John (Brandis) Tovey, Amy Tovey and Ben Weaver; along with eight great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Alan, Devin, Paige, Parker, Caleb, Kaitlyn, and Austin; brother Paul Tovey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; son and daughter in law, Dan and Karin Tovey; brother, Walt Tovey and sister, Irene Hewitt.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 6, 2024, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Township Cemetery.
