William "Bill" E. Potter's Obituary
Mr. William “Bill” E. Potter, age 84, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at his Family Cottage. He was born on May 5, 1930 in Chicago to William and Bessie (Hloucal) Potter. Bill was raised in Chicago where he met and married the former Marguerite “Peggy” Scripps in 1954, who would become his wife of 60 years. They initially resided in Chicago and later moved to Grand Rapids where they began a family. Bill had a career as a self-employed Real Estate Appraiser until his retirement in 1997, when he and Peggy made their cottage at Maranatha Bible Conference their permanent home. He was a member of Maranatha, Moody Memorial Church in Chicago, Calvary Undenominational Church in Grand Rapids and later attended Forest Park Covenant Church in Norton Shores.
Bill loved participating in sports when he was younger, enjoyed being a long time member of the Grand Rapids YMCA, flying his airplane, and remained a big sports fan throughout his life. He loved engaging with people and was a huge encourager to nearly all who knew him and was especially supportive of his four grandchildren; attending many of their activities and contributing much to their spiritual development. His greatest love was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bill loved reading his Bible and singing hymns, and was passionate about sharing his faith. He considered the many years he spent attending Bible Study Fellowship to be one of his life's most worthwhile activities.
He is survived by his wife Peggy, along with their two children, Jana Quinn of Indian Rocks Beach, FL, and David Charles (Colette) Potter of Rockford, MI; 4 grandchildren, Billy Potter, McKenzie Quinn, Renée Potter, and Nikky Potter. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynette Potter, and 2 brothers, Charles Potter and Richard Potter. The FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11AM Tuesday at Maranatha Family Life Center (4759 Lake Harbor Dr.) with Pastor Wally Coots officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 5-8PM Monday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444 231-798-1100. Private family burial will take place in Norton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference or Moody Memorial Church will be appreciated. Share memories with the family online at www.sytsemafh.com.
