William J. Tilton's Obituary
Mr. William James Tilton, age 82, passed away, Friday, February 29, 2008 in Muskegon. He was born March 29, 1925 in Canton, Ohio to William and Mary (Henry) Tilton. He was a member of Lake Harbor United Methodist Church. He graduated from Rose-Hulman University in 1949 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Tilton served his country as a member of the US Army in WWII. In 1986 he retired from Parker Hannifin as a Mechanical/Sales Engineer. In 2002, he was inducted into the Muskegon Sports Hall of Fame for his distinguished service to the community. Mr. Tilton started the Muskegon Area Junior Golf Association, and took unclaimed clubs and put together free sets for junior golfers. Mr. Tilton was also a long standing member of the Muskegon Elks. In June of 1948 he married the former Patricia L. Powell in Newcomerstown, OH and she survives him along with 3 children, Stan (Nancy) Tilton of Atlanta, GA., Scott (Debbie) Tilton of North Muskegon, and Ross (Cathy) Tilton of Evans, GA.; 3 grandchildren, Amber (Greg) Vert, Zachary and Jacob Tilton and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 brother Robert (Carol) Tilton and 1 sister, Elaine Carr. A Memorial Service will be held11:00 AM Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Erbes officiating. Visitation with the family will be tonight from 6-8PM at
