I played a lot of golf with Bill Tilton. I met him at the Golf Place where he always hung out talking to Bruce and the guys. Played in the White Lake best ball with Bill and made Bill smile when I holed a bunker shot on 17 for an eagle. I remember telling Bill that the airlines had lost my set of clubs with my favorite Wilston Staff FG 17 tour grind irons. I showed up at my office one morning and there was a set of FG 17's on the floor. I found out the Bill had played those irons and got them back from one of his grandsons. Thank you Bill for all the memories.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Bill in the first year as MCC’s golf coach. I wasn’t even on the team until a coincidental meeting he had with my father at The Golf Shop. He told my dad that I should talk to him because he needed another player. It was only because of that meeting was I able to qualify to go to Nationals out in Arizona with Bill and Mrs. Tilton (I have to say Mrs. Tilton instead of Patti because that is what I had to call her in middle school!). I played well enough to earn All-American honorable mention honors. From that point on, every time I saw Bill he would raise his hands in the air and exclaim, “there’s my All-American!”. It put a smile on my face every time he did it! After we returned from Arizona, Bill sent out a letter singing my praises to numerous Colleges. Because of Bill’s letter, I went to Spring Arbor College and did receive some scholarship money. That’s just a small idea what kind of person Bill Tilton is. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Tilton family.

Our prayers are with your family at this time of loss.What a great legacy of helping kids learn the Game of Golf.The days of Pontaluna Country Club father and sons never had so much fun playing the game it was golf at it's best.Seems like we had all the time in the world we could play 18, 36, 54, want to play another 9 sure.Sometimes I think the Dads were just like kids they couldn't wait to get out of work and on the 1st tee. You could see the love of the game in his eyes and smile.We had 3 generations of knowing Bill. Thad, Tony, and Brett. The Tiltons were tough to beat.Our forefathers were "THE MASTERS" of golf. When Bill stopped playing golf regularly a couple of years ago, Muskegon golf was not the same. And now the void is even bigger. Bill was an inspiration to all. His dedication and tireless devotion to junior golf in the Muskegon area was felt by all who had the pleasure to know Bill. We are grateful to have known and worked with Bill on the Lake Michigan Junior Golf Tour. It is indeed fitting that our player of the year awards are named in honor of Bill Tilton. I hope that all past and future juniors who win this great award will aspire to give back to the game of golf like Bill gave back to the game he so loved.

Dear Tilton Family,

First and foremost, I am sorry for you loss of such a wonderful man. Mr. Tilton was without a question one of the most positive influences in my life. I truly admire his passion for teaching golf and for his dedication to his family. I remember numerous times going over to the Tilton household and spending time with Mr. and Mrs Tilton. He always would tell me to appreciate your family and love the ones that surround me. He talked to me last year about filling his shoes in junior golf around Muskegon. Bill, I could never fill your shoes. You are a legend and someone that I admire. I will truly miss Mr. Tilton but will do my best to help out junior golf in Muskegon county in any way that I can.

Sor sorry to hear of your loss which is a loss for the community at large. I worked with Bill as Athletic Dept. Secretary at Muskegon Community College and had many interesting conversations with him. Each year when I process the golf team travel I always remember Bill because of the endowment fund he established that has enabled the MCC golf team to go South each spring to prepare which has given them much sucess year after year .
